Welcome to our Writing Group Wiki!

Thank you Margie for the idea and getting the ball rolling on a writing discussion!

I wanted to add something about the school level writing groups that we talked about during the workshop.

I've decided to wait to invite the staff at VVE to join a writing group until late September just because we have so much on our plates right now at my school...we have just implemented the Positive Behavior Supports and the CATCH initiative.

I just felt inviting people to do yet another thing would have been overwhelming and their response probably would have been "no!"

I am so excited to have a forum for discussing ideas and how things are going right away.

We hit the ground running every year and don't always stop to assess ourselves until later in the year.

So I hope this gives you an opportunity to read what's going on in some other classrooms and to reflect on how your writing workshop is working!

We have so many resources to work with, I know it's probably difficult to decide where to begin.

I decided to just start the Launching book with the Session 1 that we did in the workshop.

The kids have really stepped up to the plate and have started a couple of stories about the important people in their lives.

I'm still nervous about using the new Units of Study, but the fact that they are so detailed and well laid out puts some of my worries to rest.

I'm looking forward to reading about your first writing workshop days on this Wiki.

And I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the follow up date in October!

Hello Writing Workshop  Friends,

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

I know there are a lot of great writing workshop stories going on across our district.

I just want to start the sharing by telling you about the  Found Poetry Project that I helped Rebekah with.

As you know, with Found Poetry, each student takes a line from a book, poem, etc. on one topic. Then everybody takes all of the lines and moves them around to create their own poem on the topic.

We got tecchie with this, and did it with Word.

Each student typed their sentence on a Word Doc, saved it under their name to one folder in Student Shared called Found Poetry. This took about 10 minutes.

Then, each student copied the Found Poetry folder to their home folder, opened it, copied the sentence from each Word Doc onto their own Poem then manipluated the sentence order to create their personal Poem.

They turned out great!

Here are 2 samples..
